CONVERSATIONS WITH SCIENCE – SERRALVES FOUNDATION
30 AUGUST 2020
Conversas com Ciência – Fundação Serralves
“Conversations with Science” (free translation) – Serralves Foundation
Per invitation of the Serralves Foundation – Talks with Science program, the project coordinator Dr. Alexandre Campos made a presentation under the theme “Water quality and its impacts on the society: new challenges and solutions”
Drinking water is a limited but essential resource for life, and we are all aware of the importance of its management for the present and the future.
In this conversation, the issue of eutrophication of the water that we consume every day and use for various purposes (fresh water from rivers, lagoons, reservoirs, as well as sea water) was discussed, and together with the public, they identified the main sources of pollution of this important natural resource. We discussed the causes associated with water scarcity, such as climate change, but also its uncontrolled (unsustainable) consumption, as well as new advances in science, which can help us to overcome the enormous challenges that face protection and sustainable use of water resources
